Welcome To The Show
Two nights ago I was talking to a good friend of mine and like myself, she hasn’t always felt like life has worked out as advertised. We were given great parents, siblings to play with, safe neighborhoods to grow up in and decent schools to gain an education from. We were shown that the world was a relatively simple, logical place. You behaved, you learned, you worked hard and then you got to spend your life with the man you loved, doing a job that the good Lord designed for you to want to do and you could have a couple of kids if you wanted and live happily ever after. It all looked lovely, what an absolute crock of shit we were sold!
After speaking with her I was more certain then I have ever been that there must be a whole community of us that share this affliction and yet have somehow managed to take the results of this false narrative and clumsily trip through the shards of dead dreams and heartbreak somewhat in tact and with a new layer of resilense, sarcasm and hilarity. Thus “The Other 50” is born.
She told me I just had to write about this because she would read it, and in a world where we are all too often the only thing we have to laugh at, I couldn’t tell her no. So welcome, welcome to what will be a somewhat sarcastic, always funny, less than inspirational look at aging, hormones, dating, working, family, ADHD, stress, animals, and everything else that keeps the alcohol industry and bars in business.
Life might not get better, this really might be all there is so embrace the suck, write your own set of rules, set your boundaries and prepare to let sarcasm be your savior!
